Palheiro Gardens

Jardim da Quinta do Palheiro

The Palheiro Gardens in Madeira are a stunning collection of botanical gardens located on the outskirts of the city of Funchal. Situated on the slopes of the Monte estate, the gardens offer stunning views of the surrounding landscape and the Atlantic Ocean.

Founded in the 19th century by the Blandy family, the gardens have been lovingly maintained and expanded over the years to include a wide variety of plants and flowers. Visitors can enjoy over 20 acres of beautifully manicured gardens, including the formal Italianate garden, the exotic botanical garden, and the tranquil Japanese garden.

The gardens are home to a variety of rare and exotic plants, including camellias, hydrangeas, azaleas, and orchids. There is also a collection of more than 100 species of palms and over 100 species of trees.

In addition to the gardens, the Palheiro Gardens also feature a beautiful 19th-century manor house, which is now home to a luxury hotel. Visitors can enjoy a leisurely stroll through the gardens, followed by lunch or afternoon tea at the manor house.
