The Faial Fort is a historic military structure located in the city of Funchal. Built in the early 16th century, the fort was designed to protect the city from attacks by pirates and other seafaring invaders. It is situated on a hilltop overlooking the harbor, providing a strategic vantage point for surveillance and defense.

In addition to its military functions, the Faial Fort also served as a prison and a place of execution for criminals. It was used as a prison until the late 19th century, when a new prison was built in Funchal.

Today, the Faial Fort is a popular tourist attraction in Madeira, offering panoramic views of the city and the harbor.
