Located on the central mountain range of the island, at an altitude of 1007m, the viewpoint is accessible by car or a hike along the Levada dos Balcões trail.

At the viewpoint, visitors can see the stunning green valleys and peaks of the central mountain range, as well as the rugged coastline of the Atlantic Ocean in the distance. The area is also known for its unique microclimate, with high humidity and foggy conditions often present in the early morning and evenings.

In addition to its natural beauty, the Encumeada Viewpoint is also a popular spot for birdwatching, with a variety of species such as the Madeira Firecrest and Zino's Petrel often seen in the area.
